The Second Coming...of BASS

So once again I haven't updated for quite a while, and a few things have been happening. First off, got two nights I'm DJing at.

Sick. Also I've got a new mix up, which you can download from here. The February mix has been taking down as it is whack, although if you have it, compare the two and see how different they are. I've put my hours in. Tracklisting is;

In For The Kill (Skream Remix) - La Roux
Digidesign - Joker
Kinda Blue - The Others
Onsen - Reso
End Dub (DZ Remix) - Woogie
Play Doe - Joker & Rustie
Dark Alley - Starkey
What Is Mine - Da Vinche
This Way - Nero
Killed It Dead - TRG
Melody - 2nd II None

Erm...yeah that's all I can think of for now, got to crack on with making a guitar tuner for uni...wicked.

Things are speeding up by the looks of it! I've been offered my first DJ slot with potential residency at a new night called Dub Sessions at Dusk till Dawn in Bournemouth, starting on the 4th March.
It would be much appreciated if you could come down and give some support as it is my first show. I will let you know what time my slot is when I know myself. The promoter is also looking for some MC's, so if you're up for it get on to me at dan_smith78@hotmail.com

myTunes

Just a quick one to say that Sparx's album Why Not? which I talked about in January is now available on iTunes for download. Check out my tracks Bad Day and Look And Listen (Achilles Remix).

BTW: My name is spelled differently on here as that was before I found out there was already a producer called Achilles. Not cool.

If you wanted to get the entire CD you can get an actual physical copy for £5 from Treble Kleff Records.

FAST FWD>>

So it's been like a month since I last posted on here. To be frank I've not had anything interesting to put here that relates to this blog, but fuck it I'm treating you today anyway so I'll allow myself to go on a bit.

Since I last posted I have bought some fyne KRK VXT 6 studio monitors, Vestax decks, and around £160 worth of vinyl. Thankfully there are always people on eBay that will want to buy your shit, so I've managed to actually get the money back for all the expenditure.

This instalment of my blog is related to me DJing. I got the decks about 3 weeks ago, and in that time I have near enough got basic mixing down, had a show on Covert Radio B2B with Lysergide, and have literally just now made my first mix. Here's the tracklisting;

Nero - End Of The World - Audio Freaks
Noah D - Unknown Suspect - Subway Records
Skream - Filth - Tempa
The Others - Africa VIP - Dub Police
Marlow - Body Count - Black Acre
Benny Page & Zero G - Pan Pipes - Digital Soundboy
Ruckspin & Planas Ft. Foreign Beggars & Virus Syndicate - The Nature Of It - Rankin Records
Bar 9 - Malicious Tactics - Audio Freaks
Benny Page / Plastician Ft. Skepta - Swagger / Intensive Snare - Digital Soundboy / Soul Jazz

You can download it by clicking this link. Maximum respect if you download and set me a message if you like it at dan_smith78@hotmail.com. Forward this on to any promoters you know, I will travel anywhere!

Forever he will rep UK to the fullest

Went to guidlford last night to see my man Sparx play his first live show with 10-piece-acm-talent band, and you know for a guy who's last live performance was outside the John Kelly College in NW 4 years ago, he ripped it up. I worked on this guys debut album Why Not?, and he was as good on the mic live as he is on the CD. In fact, many of the songs on the album were recorded in one take.

This guy is on some badman ting.

Supporting him was Channel U favourite KAID who, to me, lacked the charisma needed to entertain an audience when he is the only man on stage.

Sparx looks set to become one of the very few hip hop artists (and he an artist, not just a rapper) who delivers entertaining live music. He may be to the UK Hip Hop world what Pendulum are to Drum'n'Bass.

Big Tune

Just improved on 'This Ain't No Fake Aggression'; new lead synth part, and a sample of me shouting "WOH!?" along with a bit of a shaker to liven the beat up.
Upload to myspace in 2 weeks, tops.

Out.

PLAY>>

Today I:
  • Woke up
  • Was (and still am) hungover
  • Had an epic bowl of tesco-pops
  • Listened to quite a lot of music, including Phantom of the Opera Soundtrack, Beecher, All Shall Perish, TC, Sub Focus, Benny Page (big up), and baaaare dubstep (standard)
  • Was notified by Jon that I had chewing gum on my t-shirt from last night, which could have been there for most of the night (might take a picture and put it up)
  • Put said t-shirt into the freezer
  • Went to town (Bournemouth) to buy some gold and white air force one style lacost trainers
  • Couldn't get into shop (was closed)
  • Jacked some sample CD's off magazines in WHSmith (I'm so grimey I don't even pay for my sample CD's bruv)
  • Bought a toilet brush for JP to clean toilet with
  • Realised I hadn't shaved my hair properly last night and had a little long bit
  • Read Blackdown's blog and decided to make my own...
